Library

Founded in 1976, the library of the Centre for Historical Research is classified as a Special Library. It boasts a collection of over 70,000 books, 1,750 magazines and 750 regional newspapers, all of which are arranged in the open access shelves and according to subject categories. Furthermore, the library holds audio-visual materials pertaining to the social and cultural life of the Italian national community. Besides general subject books (history, history of art, linguistics, economics, ethnography, demography, etc.), the collection pays particular attention to all topics related to the territory of ​​Istria, Rijeka and Kvarner, Dalmatia, the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions.
Since 1995, it has been the depository library of the Council of Europe, specializing in human rights, minority rights and environment protection. The library has a fund of some 3,000 titles, books, magazines and brochures that mainly encompass the official documents issued by the European Parliament and the European Commission, international treaties, conventions and agreements. It is a unique place of knowledge and study of the history of the Eastern Adriatic. In fact, the Centre has one of the richest and most complete collections about this territory, regularly replenished with modern publications. Its heritage includes book collections of immense intellectual capital and invaluable bibliographic value. It is open to the public on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with prior notice.

Archive

The Archive of the Centre for Historical Research was established in 1973. First of all, the archive holds a large and systematically organized collection of documents of the Italian National Community from 1945 to the present, as well as from previous time periods. The preserved material is varied (acts, private files, documents, photographs, posters), collected based on its value in acting as a witness and protecting our indigenous people in this area.

Over the years, the outstanding heritage consisting of cartographic collections (geographical, topographical, nautical, military, cadastral maps, graphics, vedutas; some 4,000 pieces) of great importance for the history of the Eastern Adriatic has been acquired.

Owing to its specificity and richness, the archive of the Centre is a unique place dedicated to knowledge and study of the territory of ​​Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia. All of its materials are meticulously catalogued and kept in conformity with the highest archival standards. It is open to the public on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with prior notice.
